DGS Announces Workshop for the Community Energy Savers Grant Program

The Baltimore City Department of General Services (DGS) and the Baltimore City Office of Sustainability today announced a workshop for non-profit organizations interested in applying for the Community Energy Savers Grants. The workshop will be held at Noon on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 on the 8th floor of the Charles L. Benton building, 417 E. Fayette Street. This is the second workshop the agencies have held to assist new and returning applicants who want to learn more about the application process.

The workshop will cover detailed information about the grant guidelines and stipulations, and attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP for the workshop at http://energysavergrant.eventbrite.com.

City DGS has committed $1.25 million of an energy stimulus block grant it received to the Community Energy Savers Grant program; $600,000 remains and will be awarded during the final round. Forty-three (43) nonprofit organizations were selected to receive grants during the first round. The grants will help empower nonprofits in Baltimore City to reduce energy use in their facilities and among the Baltimore residents they serve. These groups can use their energy savings to re-direct funds to the support services they provide to the community.

Qualified organizations can apply for grants in one of the following areas: (1) energy audits; (2) energy-efficient building and equipment retrofits and upgrades; or (3) community energy education and outreach programs to educate residents about steps they can take to conserve energy and reduce utility bills. Citizens are reminded that April 15, 2011 is the application deadline for the final round of Community Energy Savers Grants.
