Center History
Mrs. Rachel Lockett and Mr. Leroy Hamwright were sent to Margaret Brent Elementary School to establish a recreational program in 1976. Despite differences between the Barclay community and the school, the program was implemented for youth 5-12 years old and teenagers in 1977. Mr. Lockett and Mr. Hamwright went door to door to recruit participants for the various programs being offered at the center. The recreation center was built in 1979. The director of the new center was Mrs. Lula Maddox.
