In 2010 Baltimore was one of only ten cities in the nation to be awarded a Cities of Service Leadership Grant. The grant made it possible to hire a Chief Service Officer who would work with everyone in the city to develop and implement a plan that will leverage volunteer service as a strategy to tackle the city’s most pressing challenges.
Baltimoreans identified the three most pressing challenges in the city as drug addiction, crime, and urban blight. The stepUP! Baltimore plan will connect individuals, groups, and communities to volunteer together to impact these areas—multiplying and channeling their energy and ensuring that everyone can participate in making Baltimore better, safer and stronger.
How Can I Sign Up to Volunteer
We are preparing the initiatives to launch during the summer of 2011. At that time, we will begin providing further information on specific volunteer opportunities and other ways in which you, your group, or your organization can get involved. Please check back with us then. Thank you so much for your continued interest, and for your commitment to giving back and helping make Baltimore a better place for all of us.
