Maryland Heritage Areas Authority (MHAA) FY12 Grants
The Baltimore National Heritage Area is now seeking Intent to Apply forms for FY12 MHAA capital and non-capital grants. Forms must be completed and returned to the BNHA office (City Hall, Room 346, Baltimore, MD 21202; FAX (410) 396-5136; or e-mail Jeffrey.buchheit@baltimorecity.gov no later than close of business on January 28, 2011. An Intent to Apply is required in order to proceed to a full application.
Please note that this Intent to Apply is a new step in the MHAA grant process this year for Baltimore. Grant guidelines and applications can be found at: http://mht.maryland.gov/grants_heritagearea_project.html. Completing an Intent to Apply does not in any way commit your organization to complete a full application. BNHA staff will use the information from the Intent to Apply form to guide your organization towards a stronger application if you choose to proceed. Complete applications will be due by close of business on March 4, 2011.
Once complete applications are received by close of business on March 4, 2011, the Baltimore National Heritage Area Advisory Committee will review and rank the applications for submission to MHAA on or before April 1, 2011. Should the Advisory Committee or staff have any questions regarding your application, they will contact you.

MHAA FY12 Grant Schedule in Summary:
The Heritage Areas Program encourages grant applications for archeology and natural resource-related projects within Certified Heritage Areas that contribute to meeting the preservation/conservation, education, and heritage tourism goals of the Certified Heritage Area (see the Instructions link above for additional information on pages 5-6).
MHAA funding priorities for FY12 include the following: Projects that contribute to the commemoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812 in Maryland; Projects that contribute to the commemoration of the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War in Maryland; and Projects that will assist in interpreting the life, work, and legacy of Harriet Tubman and/or the Underground Railroad in Maryland.
African-American Heritage Preservation Grant Program Workshops
The Maryland Commission on African-American History and Culture (MCAAHC) and the Maryland Historical Trust (MHT) will be hosting a series of workshops about the African-American Heritage Preservation Grant Program throughout the State in March 2011.

*There will be one additional workshop in March, but the date and location are still being finalized. The Trust and Commission will publicize this information when it becomes avaialble.
African American History
In partnership with the Northeast Office of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the 1772 Foundation offers up to $350,000 in grants for African American history projects. The 1772 Foundation will accept one-page letters of inquiry via their website through April 1, 2011. Invited sites will be notified via email by April 15, 2011 to submit a full application. Chesapeake Bay Small Watershed Grants Program
The Chesapeake Bay Small Watershed Grants (SWG) Program provides grants of $20,000 to $200,000 to organizations and local governments working on a local level to implement projects that improve small watersheds in the Chesapeake Bay basin, while building citizen-based resource stewardship. This program is funded by EPA's Chesapeake Bay Program Office, as well as the US Forest Service, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the D.C. Department of the Environment, with additional corporate funding support from Altria, FedEx and Perdue Farms. Check the website frequently since the application process will be opening sometime in late winter or early spring.
