TITLE: Intern
TERMS: Academic credit or stipend may be available
HOURS OF WORK: 15-35 hours/week
WORK LOCATION: 1201 E. Cold Spring Lane, Baltimore, MD 21239

DESCRIPTION
The intern will undertake projects in support of Baltimore’s emergency management program. Specific projects will vary according to need and the candidate’s skills and interests. The work will be a combination of analytical, research, and administrative tasks. The intern will gain exposure to several different elements of a local emergency management program. Responsibilities may include:
  1. Coordinate the after action process following major events and incidents in the City, including the after action conference, after action report, and improvement plan.
  2. Conduct a review of MOEM improvement plans and coordinate their adoption and a system for tracking and implementing improvement items in the future.
  3.  Assist with Training and Exercise program elements by researching best practices and providing general programmatic support.
  4. Assist with training course development based on national and regional best practice and research.
  5. Maintain the MOEM conference and training calendar by researching relevant events and assist in coordinating MOEM staff participation.
  6. Assist in the development of an improved database management system for MOEM reports.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  1. High School Diploma
  2. Currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program. All majors will be considered.
  3. Strong interest in emergency management, homeland security, public safety, public health preparedness, or local government.
  4. Working computer proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  5. Familiarity with Microsoft Access and/or database design and management.
  6. Exceptional writing and communications skills.
  7. Exceptional project management and organizational skills.
  8. Ability to multi-task and work in stressful situations.
