Stephanie Rawlings-Blake Sworn-In as 49th Mayor of Baltimore
Today, shortly after 12:05pm, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake was sworn-in as the 49th Mayor of Baltimore, in accordance with the Baltimore City Charter. The Honorable Frank M. Conaway, Clerk of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City administered the Oath of Office in the Mayor’s Ceremonial Room at City Hall. City Comptroller Joan M. Pratt, members of the Baltimore City Council and Mayor Rawlings-Blake’s family members attended the ceremony.
The newly sworn-in Mayor called for city unity, “Now, today, it is time to come together, in unity, to confront our challenges as one united city. Trust, leadership and open dialogue will guide us in this process.”
Mayor Rawlings-Blake pledged to work with the City Council to tackle the city’s massive $127 million deficit. “We will fix what works and change what doesn’t in city government so that our people emerge stronger,” she said.
“Today does not mark the end of the transition process. Our work continues,” Mayor Rawlings-Blake said. “More than 150 of our citizens, business leaders and community representatives have been conducting a robust, comprehensive review of all city agencies and functions; in an effort to increase efficiency, improve ethics and create new partnerships to move Baltimore forward.”
Mayor Rawlings-Blake thanked city officials, family member and the media for witnessing the swearing-in ceremony and concluded her remarks by saying “Together, we can, and will build a better, safer, stronger Baltimore. Thank you, God Bless our people and city, and join me in moving Baltimore forward.”
