Body Respect: Navigating Weight Concerns in Clinical Practice

Body Respect: Navigating Weight Concerns in Clinical Practice

Friday, November 7, 2014 - 9:00am

The Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt is pleased to present Dr. Linda Bacon, an internationally-recognized authority on topics relating to nutrition, weight, and health. In her workshop, Body Respect: Navigating Weight Concerns in Clinical Practice, Bacon will challenge assumptions of a health agenda based on thinness as a goal and dietary control as the answer. She will also offer an alternative path for health professionals to address weight more effectively and empower patients—of all sizes—to live healthier lives. This three-hour workshop is recommended for primary care providers/pediatricians, internists, specialists, nurses, dietitians, psychologists and other health and mental health providers. For more information, visit eatingdisorder.org.

Dr. Linda Bacon is a professor, researcher, and author of the ground-breaking book Health at Every Size: The Surprising Truth About your Weight. Bacon is known for shifting the focus from weight to well-being, giving doctors, dietitians, therapists, and people of all shapes the tools for achieving better fitness, health and happiness—all without dieting. Her newest eye-opening book, Body Respect: What Conventional Health Books Get Wrong, Leave Out, and Just Plain Fail to Understand about Weight, will be given out to all workshop participants.
