One-Stop-Shopping and New Hours for DGS Permits

Starting this spring, any event held in the public right-of-way and in a City park will require only one application instead of two.

And, now applications may be submitted at either one of two locations:

  • Department of General Services (DGS), Permit Office
    200 Holliday Street, 1st floor, Abel Wolman Building
    or
  • Department of Recreation and Parks, Permit Office
    3001 East Drive, Druid Hill Park

New DGS Permit Office Hours are Monday - Friday from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. The Department of Recreation and Parks office accepts applications Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Wednesdays from 11:00 am – 7:00 pm and the office is closed on Thursdays.

In Honor of Earth Week: City to Reveal Solar Project at Back River Wastewater Treatment Plant

WHO : Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake will be joined by Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz, City Councilwoman Sharon Green Middleton, MEA Director Malcolm Woolf, City DGS Director Theodore "Ted" Atwood, DPW Director Alfred H. Foxx, Johnson Controls, and city, state and county officials for the unveil of a solar renewable energy project at City Public Works' Back River Wastewater Treatment Plant.

WHERE: 8201 Eastern Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21224

WHAT: A ceremonial ribbon-cutting will celebrate the addition of a one-megawatt solar photovoltaic system that will produce sustainable, clean energy for the City.

Big Truck Day

The Departments of Public Works, General Services, Transportation, Fire, Police in conjunction with the Baltimore Museum of Industry (BMI). DGS oversees the city’s fleet of over 5,700 vehicles and equipment. Big Truck Day pulls together a sampling of large vehicles from DGS’ user agencies for a big one-day public display.

The Department of General Services (DGS) was created on July 1, 2009, having been a division of the Department of Public Works. DGS endeavors to make the City of Baltimore a leader in municipal energy efficiency, an innovator in the application of technology and a sustainable steward of government and community resources. And, our team saves taxpayers nearly $6 million each year through energy efficiency projects.

The Department of General Services has five divisions which provide services to City agencies and residents of Baltimore:

Fleet Management

Fleet Management effectively manages the City’s vehicle operations and facilities.

Facilities Maintenance

Facilities Maintenance provides efficient operation, maintenance and improvement of City owned buildings.

Planning, Design and Construction

Planning, Design and Construction provides the design, engineering, management and inspection of City-funded construction projects and manages property records for all properties located within the city limits.

Energy

Energy monitors citywide energy use and the development of energy-efficiency improvements to City facilities

Right-of-Way Services

Right-of-Way Services oversees the issuance and enforcement of Right-of-Way (ROW) permits. The Special Events web portal begins here and permit forms can be downloaded. Call (410)396-4508 for information.
