Commission on Aging - Medicare-Approved Drug Discount Card and Other Prescription Savings Programs

If you are interested in waiver services, you may "save your place" by putting your name on the Waiver Services Registry. You will be notified when slots become available. Call (toll free) 1-866-417-3480 to place your name on the registry. The State will notify you when slots become available once your name is on the registry.

If you are paying for the cost of prescription drugs out of your own pocket, Medicare can help. With one of the Medicare-approved drug discount cards offered by a private company, you can save on covered brand name drugs. If you have a lower income ($12,569 per year or less), you can save even more money by getting a $600 credit towards your prescription costs. Anyone with Medicare can get on of the drug discount cards except those who have outpatient prescription drug coverage from Medicaid.

Medicare can help you choose a Medicare-approved drug discount card that is right for you. Just call 1-800-MEDICARE and ask about "drug cards." TTY users should call 1-877-486-2048. You can also get this information at www.medicare.gov on the web. Select: "Prescription Drug and Other Assistance Programs." To better serve you, have the following information ready when you call or contact the website:

  • Your zip code
  • Your medicines and doses (listed on your pill bottles)
  • Your total monthly income

Medicare will use this information to tell you about your card choices. Once you have compared your drug discount card options you can decide on a card that best meets your needs and enroll. Remember that enrollment is voluntary.

If you have additional questions regarding this program you can contact CARE's Senior Health Insurance Program at (410) 306-2273.
