training, to be aware of the signs and symptoms of abuse

Elderly & Handicapped

Funded by the Maryland Department of Transportation, and
operated through MJ Management Services, this program
provides low-cost taxicards for taxi-cab transportation
for aging and disabled Baltimoreans. Contact MJ Management

Eating Together in Baltimore

Eating Together is the federally funded congregate nutrition
program administered by the Commission on Aging and Retirement
Education (CARE). ETIB provides a chance for seniors to
explore different areas of interest, broaden horizons,
make new friends, attend special events, and enjoy nutritious
meals.
Family Caregiver Program

Provides information, assistance, respite and supplemental
services to family caregivers, including grandparents,
60 and above, who are raising their grandchildren.

Provides home delivered meals and services for homebound
persons city-wide.
Hooper Adult Day Services

Provides Specialized Day Care to those with Alzheimer's
disease. A $1million plus renovation of the "Casino,"
located in Patterson Park, will result in a state of the
art facility for the seniors of Baltimore.

A "one-stop" source of information and services
for older adults and their caregivers, the call center
also offers resources regarding senior programs and benefits
along with problem solving, outreach, and health insurance
counseling.
Legal Services for the Elderly

Contracted through the Bar Association of Baltimore City,
the project offers free legal assistance in general civil
matters to Baltimore City residents 60 and above.

and Community Based Services

Gives older adults a choice between nursing home care
or receiving services in a community based setting.

Monitors nursing homes and investigates complaints of
residents and families about nursing home and assisted
living programs.

A mandated program provides life management services for
individuals 65 and above who are unable to make decisions
for themselves.

range of services and programs which help meet the social,
physical and intellectual needs of older adults.
Activities include informal classes, trips, crafts, fitness
and educational programs, special events and socialization.

SHIP offers public education and provides seniors with
access to information, counseling and claims assistance
for a variety of health insurance issues.

Provides community-based services such as home care, transportation,
adult day care, respite and more in order to help seniors
remain living in their homes and communities.
Volunteer Opportunities 410-396-4932
Various opportunities exist for volunteer work. Volunteers
visit nursing homes, assist staff, help with promotions
and events and aid in direct services.
Waxter Medical Services 410-396-1295
CARE and the University of Maryland Medical System partner
to bring primary care medical services to seniors. Most
commercial health insurance. HMO's and Medicare and Medical
Assistance are accepted. These services are offered at
the Waxter Center.
