Improved Recreation Staffing. Funding 23 additional Recreation Leaders which will enable us to expand to serve approximately 3,450 additional constituents at our largest facilities.
Extended Recreation Center Hours. Funding provided to support the extended Recreation Center hours from June 25 - August 17 will provide a safe haven and recreation experiences for teens at 14 locations from 6:00 -10:00 pm - Monday - Friday. (Recreational, athletic, social, cultural, field trips).
Tree Baltimore Plan. Under the Tree Baltimore Plan, the Department of Recreation and Parks Forestry Division is working with citizens and local businesses to double the tree canopy cover in Baltimore over the next 40 years.
Tree Inventory. The Department has partnered with the Parks and People Foundation, Herring Run Foundation, Jones Falls Watershed Association, and MDNR Urban and Community Forestry Program to conduct an inventory of Baltimore City’s street trees. Nearly 100 volunteers will use i-Tree—the new Inventory of Tree Resources Environmental and Economics software—to gain critical information about Baltimore’s trees. Baltimore will become one of the first cities in the nation to use the new software.
Tree Giveaway. We have given away 1,150 free trees to our citizens so far this year. Working with our non-profit partners, we will almost triple the number of trees planted in the City this year.
