Accountability for City’s Cleanliness. Merged cleaning functions from DPW and HCD. Streamlines operations and reduces confusion, so that work can be performed faster. Target duration time is now 14 days for dirty alleys and dirty lots, compared to 21 days in the past.

Mechanical Sweeping. New deployments enable the City to sweep 320 more miles each week with our mechanical street sweeping operation.

Environmental Crimes Enforcement Unit (ECEU). The Environmental Crimes Enforcement Unit, the section in charge of catching illegal dumpers and graffiti vandals, has significantly increased its output of criminal summonses and arrests so far this year, with 40 enforcement actions so far this year compared to this time last year.
- Extended Yard Hours and more Yards. The Bureau is providing extended yard hours for residents to drop off bulk trash and recycling. The 3 collection yards (701 Redbird Avenue, 6101 Bowley’s Lane, and 2840 Sisson Street) now offer extended hours and are open until 7 pm. These extended yard hours are well used by residents and provide an extra level of customer service to residents, making it easier for them to help keep the city clean and green. In addition to the extended hours, two pilot recycling drop-off facilities have been started.
- More Accessibility to Recycling. The new recycling coordinator has assisted the Baltimore City School System in adding 15 paper retrievers to Baltimore City schools. These bins allow anyone to recycle paper. The paper retriever company then gives the schools a portion of the proceeds from recycling the paper, which can be used to improve our schools.
- Increased Performance. After consolidating cleaning functions, the City is cleaning more graffiti, dirty alleys, and streets than ever before. The City has cleaned more than 15,000 dirty alleys so far this year, compared to 12,200 this time last year. Moreover, 4,000 more instances of graffiti have been removed compared to this time last year.
