A Call to Action: 5,000 Men event/movement is a call for 5,000 men to stand up, to lead, to be the example, to assume greater responsibility for their actions and to provide greater support for their children, families and communities. On June 15, 2008 (Father’s Day), Black men are being called to the Baltimore Convention Center from 3 – 7 p.m. in an act of solidarity to express their commitment to modeling what “being a man is, and doing the things men do”. Moreover, men are being called to volunteer (to act) by supporting and joining existing community based organizations that are currently working with Black men/boys in an effort to fulfill the mission of reducing homicides, minimizing crime, reaffirming family life and creating peace throughout Baltimore City. The June 15th event will serve as a giant step towards the development of a long-term effort to recapture those life-saving standards, structures, models and activities that are needed to create and maintain safe and peaceful communities.
Over 100 community based organizations – primarily serving men and boys – are being recruited to be present at the C2A – 5,000 Baltimore event to share critical information and resources, and to sign up men who would like to volunteer their time and talents to those community, educational, and faith-based programs that are working to restore peace and end the violence in our homes, schools, and neighborhoods throughout Baltimore City.
