
The Bureau of Solid Waste collects residential trash and keeps Baltimore clean. It is also responsible for the Citywide Recycling Programs and for special neighborhood collections and cleanups.
Schools may schedule free environmental presentations on recycling, source reduction and waste management by calling Recycling Office at 410-396-4511.
In observance of Earth Day, the City of Baltimore, Department of Public Works, Bureau of Solid Waste will hold a Clean Your Files Day event on Monday, April 21, 2008.
We are inviting businesses, institutions and agencies located in Baltimore City to participate. This is an opportunity to clean out old and unwanted files and think about how your business can continue to recycle with the Department of Public Works on a regular basis. Don’t forget, now that Baltimore is Single Stream, glass bottles, plastic bottles and aluminum, tins and steel cans, may also be included.
Please call the Bureau of Solid Waste, Recycling Office at 410-396-4511 or simply dial 311 to register. Deadline to register is Tuesday, April 15, 2008.

TrashHOW TO GET BULK ITEMS COLLECTED
Every month, Baltimoreans can place up to three
items out for collection. One day per month is set
aside for this collection. All citizens have to
do is call 311 and tell us:
1. Your address
2. Your telephone

3. What 3 items
Call us 3 or more working days before your scheduled
date. Your bulk trash day remains the same in 2007.
If you do not know your day, please call 311 or schedule your
collection online.
WHAT IS BULK? Bulk items are furniture, appliances and up to 4 tires with the rims removed. All items must be clearly marked "bulk collection," and placed at the same location as regular trash pickup. Residents with a rear pickup should leave items at the end of the yard and leave the gate unlocked.
THE FOLLOWING WILL NOT BE COLLECTED: Building materials such as sheet rock, siding, wood pieces or roofing.
WHERE AND HOW SHOULD IT BE PLACED? All items should be placed at the same location as regular trash. If you have a rear collection for trash, clearly mark all items and place them at the end of the yard and leave the gate unlocked.

The City of Baltimore, through its Department of Public Works, provides its residents with five locations around the city where they may dispose of waste materials FOR FREE.
These locations are open to residents from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. (except Northwest Transfer Station at 5030 Reisterstown Road hours from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.) Residents bringing materials for disposal in their personal vehicle, including unmodified pickup trucks rated 3/4 ton or less, simply show proof of residency to access this free service. (Commercial vehicles must be registered as small haulers and go to Quarantine Rd. Sanitary Landfill.)

City government cannot keep Baltimore clean without the help of citizens and visitors. Mayor Dixon has made it clear that improving the cleanliness of Baltimore is one of her top priorities. Baltimore residents have joined DPW in a variety of special cleanup operations and the results are dramatic!
