Community Outreach

The Mayor's Office of Neighborhoods (MON) is the community outreach arm of the Mayor’s Office. MON staff is dedicated exclusively to working with constituents and community groups to ensure that their needs and concerns are addressed. MON also helps ensure that city government and particularly, the Office of the Mayor remains available and accessible to the constituents it serves.

Neighborhood Liaisons are the Mayor’s representatives in the community. They are assigned to specific geographic areas of the city and are tasked with building productive, working relationships with community leaders and constituents. Liaisons regularly attend community association meetings to listen and respond to neighborhood concerns that can be addressed through city services and resources. They are a valuable source of information and assistance to neighborhoods throughout Baltimore city. Additionally, MON staff routinely participates in community events and activities on behalf of the Mayor to provide resource information and to further connect residents to their local government.

A major component of MON’s outreach efforts are a series of public meetings held periodically throughout the year. The Mayor’s Neighborhood Conversations are an opportunity for residents to meet with Mayor Dixon and the heads of various city agencies to discuss concerns specific to their neighborhood. City agency representatives are also on hand to provide immediate assistance with the concerns discussed. The Mayor’s Nights In provide a unique opportunity for residents to gather at City Hall for discussions led by Mayor Dixon. Topics discussed during the Mayor’s Night In are those that affect neighborhoods and constituents citywide and have included foreclosure, group homes, youth engagement and sustainability.

Outreach to Ethnic Communities

The Mayor's Office of Neighborhoods includes staff that works with the Jewish, Hispanic & Latino and Korean communities.  This is done to provide a better understanding of the dynamics of these communities and how city services can best address their needs.   Liaisons to these communities have first-hand knowledge of and experience with the culture, customs and practices unique to these segments of Baltimore’s population.  In addition, they have direct access to all sectors of city government and are capable of bridging the gaps that might otherwise keep residents disconnected from services and resources.
