Every ten years the U.S. Census Bureau conducts nationwide data gathering to collect information about the people and housing of the United States. The data collected consists of demographic data from all people and housing units. The decennial Census provides counts and information for many levels of geography, including states, counties, cities and towns, ZIP codes, census tracts and blocks. The analysis of this data is vital to the decision making process for planning issues, identifying trends over time, and the distribution of funds for government programs.
The data on this page is compiled from the 2000 Census specifically for Baltimore City. More detailed information can be found on the Census Bureau website at www.census.gov.
Neighborhood Profiles
These demographic profiles provide data from the 2000 census for Baltimore Neighborhood Statistical Areas.
These profiles offer a general demographic portrait that shows changes between 1990 and 2000. Data is available for individual neighborhoods as well as citywide for categories such as population, age, family household type and housing characteristics. This data comes from the Census Summary File 1 (SF 1) and is also known as complete count data.
These profiles include more than 400 characteristics such as population, social and economic characteristics related to race, income, education and occupation. for neighborhood areas. Data is available for the great majority of neighborhoods but due to Federal confidentiality laws seven small neighborhood areas were aggregated. This data is derived from the Census Summary File 3 (SF 3) and since it was collected from only one in every six households is considered sample data.
