Center History
The James D. Gross Recreation Center Was first named the Edgecombe Circle Recreation Center built in 1969. The Mayor at that time was Thomas J. D’Alesandra, III. The president of the board of Recreation and Parks was Joseph H. Rash. The Superintendent of the Bureau of Recreation was A.L Cottrill. The Director of Recreation and Parks was Douglas S. Tawney. The center was constructed under the supervision of the department of public works. On April 15, 1976, the center was dedicated in memory of Mr. James D. Gross who had served the community and the recreation center for a number of years.
