The Conduit Division provides the City of Baltimore with an accessible, controlled and documented underground infrastructure to support power distribution, communication and signal networks within the City in a safe, professional and responsible manner. The Division plans, manages project design and construction, negotiates leases, and provides inspection and maintenance services in order to support the current and expanding needs of the City's public service and private sector economic engines. The conduit system is located within the City's right-of-way and coexists underground with other City utilities. It has over 14,000 manholes and 3.7 million feet of conduit. These conduits contain electrical power cables, telecommunications (including fiber optic), and traffic signal control cables. As such, they are critical to the day-to-day functions of the public and private economy of the City, and the region. |
