BikeBaltimore is the Department of Transportation’s bike program. Managed by the Planning Division, BikeBaltimore includes anything bike related including implementing the Bicycle Master Plan, incorporating cycling in many transportation projects, installing bike racks and coordinating cycling events. The Bicycle Master Plan was developed by the Department of Planning in 2006. Since then, Baltimore has installed 42 on-street bike lane miles and is adding more every year.
Baltimore held its first Cyclovia event on Sunday, October 25th. Southbound Roland Avenue from Northern Parkway to W. Cold Spring Lane was closed to vehicular traffic allowing cyclists, pedestrians, families and dog walkers to enjoy the street as a park. This event would not have been possible without the vision of the Roland Park Civic League and the guidance of Councilwomen Mary Pat Clarke and Sharon Greene Middleton.
The Station North Bike Rack Competition winners are now in! These artistic racks can be found along Charles St and North Avenue. (Yes, the green hedge is a bike rack!)
The Park Heights Bicycle Network is available for review. Construction of the new bike facilities and routes is scheduled for Spring 2010. See attached pdf
The Southeast Bicycle Network community meeting is Wednesday, October 28th, 6:30 pm at the Southeast Anchor Library on Eastern Avenue.
In a recent article in the Sun, the Department of Transportation described how attacks on cyclists were being tracked. Below is a map of the attack locations.”
