Community Planning

Overview

Neighborhood action plans seek to balance neighborhood priorities with a citywide decision-making framework. Neighborhood priorities are articulated through community wide forums and a steering committee of community stakeholders. The Planning Department and other city agencies will provide guidance to neighborhoods about bringing stakeholders to the table and about the ongoing tasks of the steering committee. The citywide framework will be articulated through active agency participation as the plan is developed and by matching strategies to conditions.

Purpose

The purpose of neighborhood action plans is to identify neighborhood strengths and opportunities, describe strategies for neighborhood improvement, and provide the information necessary for all interested parties to make decisions about neighborhood investments. More specifically, neighborhood action plans are intended to:

  • Inform City agencies, neighborhood residents, and other interested parties about neighborhood assets, activities, strategies, and priorities.
  • Promote collaboration between City government, neighborhood groups, and other interested parties.
  • Achieve sensible and coordinated project and program planning within the neighborhood.
  • Focus the activities of City agencies, neighborhood groups, and other partners towards the priorities and opportunities identified in this plan.
  • Target limited resources based on clear priorities in order to strengthen the neighborhood.
