“Last year, Operation Orange Cone was a major success for Baltimore,” said Mayor Dixon. “Challenging ourselves to do better required finding a new way of coordinating our resources to make road construction more efficient. This year we are going to build on our success and take Orange Cone to another level.” In April 2007, Mayor Dixon announced Operation Orange Cone and the goal of doubling the number of lane miles that were repaved and repaired the previous year. By the end of the 2007 construction season, DOT completed more than 180 lane miles, more than doubling the construction total from 2006 and setting a new standard for future road construction campaigns. “From day one, we have been working to build a cleaner, greener, safer and healthier Baltimore,” added Mayor Dixon. “I hope that with the success of Operation Orange Cone, I can now add ‘smoother’ to the list.” This construction season, the Department of Transportation has set a new goal. Baltimore expects to pave 200 lane miles this year, a slight increase over last year and more than double what was paved in 2006. The Department of Transportation is committed to "Keeping Baltimore Moving Safely, now and in the Future" |
