The Board is responsible for raising the level of academic achievement of the students in the Baltimore City Public School System, improving the management and administration of the city’s public school system, and is held accountable for the academic achievement of the public school students in Baltimore City. Baltimore turns 288 on Sunday, July 30th! The city was founded on July 30, 1729, receiving its charter, established as “The Town of Baltimore.” In 1797, the town was incorporated through the General Assembly as The City of Baltimore, bringing with it Jonestown and Fells Point.
