Historic Preservation Design Guidelines
The design guidelines provide specific direction to applicants about how to treat building materials, landscapes, and building interiors where applicable. The guidelines help property owners and contractors identify issues and craft appropriate maintenance and design solutions for their historic buildings, and provides guidance on additions, new construction, and non-contributing (meaning, non-historic) buildings. The guidelines include sections on alternative materials, lead-based paint hazards, and archeology, and artistic expression. The Commission or its staff apply these guidelines strictly or leniently based upon the site conditions and visibility of each project.
