How to File a Complaint
If you work on a construction or service project funded by the City and your employer failed to pay you, underpaid you, or did not pay you correctly for overtime, you have the right to report unpaid or underpaid wages. If you are unsure about what wage you should be making or if you are owed a different wage, contact a Compliance Officer.
What Happens After You File
After you file a complaint, a Compliance Officer with the Wage Commission will begin an investigation. After the investigation, if there is reason to believe that you are owed wages, a letter will be sent to your employer about the owed wages.
Important Points
- Quality investigations take time. Please be patient—your case must be ready for court if needed.
- You are protected when filing a complaint. It is illegal for anyone to retaliate. Report harassment to your compliance officer.
- Share all details with your compliance officer. Don’t decide what’s important—let them handle that.
- Update us if your address changes.
