Overview

The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) makes sure buildings in Baltimore City follow the rules for safety and construction. DHCD gives out building permits and checks to make sure work is done correctly for things like construction, changes to buildings, electrical work, heating and cooling systems, and plumbing in homes and businesses. DHCD also requires property and alarm registration and gives licenses to landlords who rent out homes.
