The Baltimore City Fire Department (BCFD) is committed to keeping our city safe. Covering 92 square miles, we serve over one million people each day with a team of more than 1,600 dedicated members.

What We Do

  • Emergency Response: We answer over 235,000 calls per year, including fires, medical emergencies, rescues, and hazardous situations.
  • Fire Suppression & Rescue: Our engines, trucks, heavy rescue, and medic units respond to all types of emergencies, including water rescues.
  • Community Outreach & Education: We provide fire safety education, public programs, and emergency preparedness training to help residents stay safe.
  • Medical Services: Our paramedics and EMTs offer life-saving care through Mobile Integrated Healthcare and community-based programs.

Smoke Alarms Save Lives

If you live inside Baltimore City Limits you can request free smoke alarms for your home and we will install them for you.

 Please call 311 and within two hours firefighters will come to your home to install 10 year lithium tamper resistant smoke alarms on each level of your home.
