Public Education
The Public Education Team is dedicated to educating the citizens and businesses of Baltimore City on fire prevention and safety. Our motto:
"The first step to prevention is education."
We provide fire safety programs for community events, schools, and businesses to help prevent tragedies and promote safety.
Fire Prevention Class
When: Third Saturday of each month (with a minimum of five attendees)

Our Life Safety Education Class teaches all ages about fire safety in the home and community. Topics include:
- Exit Drills in the Home
- Get Out, Stay Out
- Dangers of Carbon Monoxide
Inspector Detector (School Program)
When: Second Thursday of the month (October – April)
Who: 1st – 3rd Grade Students
This interactive fire safety program has been a partnership with Safe Kids for over 20 years! Children learn five key fire safety principles:
- Safe Meeting Place
- When to Call 911
- Tools vs. Toys
- Stop, Drop, and Roll
- How to Call 311 for a Smoke Alarm
Schools can contact the Office of the Fire Marshal to join the program.
Car Seat Installation
When: First Friday of each month
Where: Old Town Fire Station
In partnership with Kids in Safety Seats (KISS), we provide car seat installation services to keep children safe.

Story time with a Firefighter
Who: Preschool & Kindergarten Students
This engaging program helps young children learn about firefighters in a fun and friendly way. A firefighter will:
- Read a story about fire safety
- Demonstrate putting on firefighting gear
- Showcase a fire engine
This program helps kids overcome fear of firefighters and teaches them about community helpers. Daycare centers & preschools can contact us to schedule a session.
Community Engagement
The Baltimore City Fire Department (BCFD) Office of Communications & Community Engagement offers training and educational programs to help residents and community groups improve fire and life safety awareness.
