To request free smoke alarms in Baltimore City, residents should call 311. Requests are routed to the Baltimore City Fire Department, and firefighters will install 10-year lithium, tamper-resistant smoke alarms on each level of the home, typically within two hours.

The Baltimore City Fire Department also offers smoke alarms for residents who are deaf or hard of hearing. Requests for these specialized alarms can be made by contacting the Office of the Fire Marshal at (410) 396-5752.
