Overview
The Energy team’s daily work includes working with agencies to understand their utility costs and performance and assist in accurately budgeting for energy costs.
The Energy Data and Performance team is responsible for:
- Managing and processing over 1500 electric, natural gas, steam, and chilled water bills and accounts that serve hundreds of City buildings and assets.
- Benchmarking buildings in the ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager® platform.
- Managing the City’s electric and natural gas supply purchasing contracts to maximize savings, including a 10MW solar photovoltaic Power Purchasing Agreement.
- Selling and buying Renewable Energy Credits to create revenue and/or to comply with the State Renewable Portfolio Standard.
- Using energy analytics to identify billing errors, capitalize on opportunities for savings, and track building performance to achieve the goals of the Maryland Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS).
| What’s new in DGS Energy? In FY2022 DGS launched with Baltimore Energy Data Initiative. The goal of the initiative is to make the City accountable for how we use energy. We use data to identify the best opportunities for energy efficiency improvement by benchmarking buildings against their peers in the City or with similar buildings across the nation. The Initiative includes four steps: (1) verify the account data and building use of every account, (2) benchmark performance, (3) track the results of energy projects, and (4) set targets for a municipal building energy performance standard (BEPS). |
