BALTIMORE, MD (Wednesday, April 1, 2026) - Today, Mayor Brandon M. Scott announced that shootings and homicides in Baltimore City have continued to decline following historic reductions in 2023, 2024, and 2025. Through this morning, the City has seen 28 homicides and 61 non-fatal shootings. Compared to last year, which saw 32 homicides and 66 non-fatal shootings, showing a 12.5% decrease in homicides and a 7.6% decrease in non-fatal shootings.

"So far in 2026, we are maintaining progress and building on what have been historic lows for gun violence in Baltimore. While this momentum is worthy of recognition, any one life lost to violence is one too many," said Mayor Brandon M. Scott. "I want to thank the brave men and women of the Baltimore Police Department, our community violence intervention ecosystem, the State's Attorney's Office, my Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement, the Office of the Attorney General, and most importantly, our residents for their collective effort in continuing to drive down violence in Baltimore year-over-year. Now is the time to take this work to the next level."

Baltimore residents have my commitment that all of the City government remains determined and focused on enhancing public safety, just as we have been since I first became Mayor.

Baltimore's Group Violence Reduction Strategy (GVRS), a key partnership between BPD, the Mayor's Office and prosecutors, which focuses on violent social networks responsible for driving the majority of the violence in Baltimore, has seen success balancing services and accountability where appropriate. Together, they work to reach those at the very highest risk of being involved in violence to put down the guns and change their behaviors. As of March 25, 2026, GVRS has led to over 625 arrests and connected over 364 individuals to life coaching and wraparound services through YAP, Inc., and Roca.

Additionally, as of March 31, 2026, Baltimore Police Department officers have seized over 443 firearms already this year, including 44 ghost guns, and made 287 gun arrests.

Crime continues to drop across other major categories. As of March 31, 2026, carjackings are down 51%, burglaries are down 20%, auto theft is down 17%, and total robberies are down 24% compared to this time last year.
