What We Do

The Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (MONSE) works with people, groups, and businesses to make Baltimore’s neighborhoods safer. We team up with residents, community organizations, the government, police, and local businesses to help reduce violence and build safer communities across our city.

Mayor Brandon M. Scott started MONSE in December 2020 to replace the old Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice. Our job is to reduce gun violence and tackle the causes of violence. We believe in being fair to everyone while making sure everyone who lives, works, and plays in Baltimore feels safe. Our team follows Baltimore's 5-year Comprehensive Violence Prevention Plan to guide these efforts.

MONSE programs are designed to prevent violence, help people make better choices, and support those returning from jail. Our programs include stopping community violence, helping people change their lives, giving support to crime victims, and making our neighborhoods stronger.
