Mayor Rawlings-Blake to Host the Mondawmin Festival

OneBaltimore, non-profits and City agencies will come together to offer residents a day of fun, entertainment, and resources

BALTIMORE, Md. (July 9, 2015)—Mayor Rawlings-Blake and OneBaltimore will join non-profit organizations and City agencies to host the Mondawmin Festival, a family-oriented event, featuring live music, free food, and resources for the community at Mondawmin Mall on Saturday, July 11th from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.

This event will offer residents an opportunity to engage with non-profit and community leaders, including Mayor Rawlings-Blake, Neighborhood Housing Services, Neighborworks America, Baltimore Housing Authority and many more. The Department of Recreation and Parks will showcase its fun wagon, a traveling van that features recreational items for communities.  Youth will have the opportunity to play basketball with Baltimore Police officers and enjoy an obstacle course hosted by the Maryland National Guard.

"This is an excellent way to bring people together to celebrate the community and also have fun," said Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. "I also want to provide an opportunity to reach out to residents with information about health, education and employment resources. This event will bring all of these resources to one location. My hope is that families will connect with services and information that enhance their resilience and strengthen our communities."

More than a hundred City agencies and non-profit organizations will be on site to offer residents information and access to resources that will support their needs. Resources will include healing circles, Baltimore Police Department neighborhood engagement, job training and placement, and energy, water bill and housing assistance. Residents will also have an opportunity to share their thoughts about the impact of the recent civil unrest and community needs in an interactive mural.

Participating agencies include: Neighborhood Housing Services of Baltimore, Neighborworks America, Baltimore Housing Authority, United Way of Central Maryland, St. Ambrose Housing Aid Center, Greater Baltimore Urban League, American Red Cross, Baltimore City Health Department, Mayor’s Office of Employment Development, Department of Public Works, Baltimore City Fire Department, Baltimore Police Department, Mayor’s Office on Criminal Justice, Maryland National Guard, and more.
