About Demand-Based Parking
In the summer of 2017, we began changing parking meter prices based on how many people needed parking spots. Every six months, the City checks the data and adjusts the prices to make sure there is always one or two open spots on each block. This helps people find parking more easily and spend more time enjoying Baltimore.
The Goal
Our goal is to make sure there is always one or two open parking spaces on each block. To do that, we need to set the right price. This means choosing the lowest price that still helps keep some spots open for people who need them.
How It Works
Every six months, we collect and study data to see how many parking spots are being used on each block. Meter prices change slowly, going up or down by $0.25 at most twice a year.
- If more than 85% of spots are taken, the price will usually go up.
- If fewer than 75% of spots are taken, the price will usually go down.
- If the number stays between 75% and 85%, the price will stay the same.
