What You Need to Know
Baltimore City Department of Public Works (DPW) is immediately restricting use of the Prettyboy Reservoir boat ramp due to low water levels caused by prolonged drought conditions.
Effective immediately:
- Trailered boats and other watercraft requiring the boat ramp may not be launched or retrieved.
- Kayaks and other small, hand-launched watercraft remain permitted.
- Fishing tournaments and other groups scheduled at Prettyboy Reservoir should make alternate arrangements.
The restriction is being implemented as a public safety measure as declining water levels make it increasingly difficult to safely launch and retrieve trailered watercraft. The restriction will remain in place until conditions allow DPW to safely reopen the ramp. Signage will be posted at the boat ramp.
Liberty and Loch Raven Reservoirs
Boat ramps at Liberty and Loch Raven reservoirs remain open for permitted watercraft, subject to water levels and any applicable restrictions.
The normal boating season at the City's reservoirs ends December 31.
Drought Conditions
Prolonged dry conditions continue to reduce water levels at Baltimore City's reservoirs. DPW is closely monitoring reservoir levels and water supply conditions and taking steps to protect the region's water supply.
The City's Watercraft Permit allows DPW to restrict watercraft use when drought or other conditions make launching and retrieving watercraft unsafe.
