Annual Water Quality Report

Every year, Baltimore’s Department of Public Works (DPW) tests the city’s water to make sure it is clean and safe to drink. The results are shared in the Water Quality Report, which is published by July 1 and includes data from the previous year. The 2025 Water Quality Report is now available.

How We Keep Drinking Water Safe

The EPA sets rules on how much of certain substances can be in tap water. Our Water Quality Report explains:

Our Commitment To Clean Water

At Baltimore DPW, keeping your drinking water safe is our top priority. We follow strict rules to make sure your water is clean, reliable, and meets high safety standards. You have the right to know what is in your water and how we keep it safe.

Each year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requires us to publish a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), also known as the Water Quality Report. This report gives you facts about the safety and quality of your drinking water.

How To Get the Report

You can read the Baltimore City DPW Water Quality Report online anytime. If you need a printed copy, call 311 or 410-396-5352 (for Baltimore County customers).

Where Our Water Comes From

Baltimore’s drinking water comes from rainfall and melting snow that collects in three reservoirs:

  • Liberty Reservoir
  • Loch Raven Reservoir
  • Prettyboy Reservoir

Together, these reservoirs hold about 75 billion gallons of water. During droughts, we may also use water from the Susquehanna River.

The forests around the reservoirs protect the water by filtering out pollution and preventing erosion. Although Baltimore City owns the reservoirs, many nearby communities depend on them as well.

Water Testing and Safety

Baltimore has two water testing labs:

  1. Montebello Filtration Plant
  2. Ashburton Filtration Plant

DPW’s mineral reports provide a detailed, month-by-month look at your drinking water’s chemistry, including pH, alkalinity, and dissolved solids. Conducted by the Ashburton and Montebello Water Quality Laboratories, this testing helps ensure consistent water quality and supports treatment operations.
