Mission Statement

The Baltimore City Department of Transportation works to keep our roads, sidewalks, and transportation systems safe and easy to use. We help people get around the city in different ways—like by car, bus, bike, or on foot. Our goal is to make sure Baltimore is a great place to live, work, and visit.

By the Numbers

We plan, design, build, and maintain:

  • 2,000 miles of roadways
  • 7 miles of interstate highways
  • 298 bridges and culverts
  • 456 miles of alleys
  • 72,000 street lights
  • 1,300 signalized intersections
  • 250,000 traffic and informational signs
