Weekend Lane and Ramp Closures Along the Jones Falls Expressway / I-83

BALTIMORE, MD (June 4, 2026) – The Baltimore City Department of Transportation would like to advise motorists that temporary lane and ramp closures will be in effect this weekend along the Jones Falls Expressway / I-83 for graffiti removal. The Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT MTA) is working in partnership with the City of Baltimore to paint the light rail bridge that crosses the Jones Falls Expressway.
Starting at approximately 9:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2026, the northbound and southbound Jones Fall Expressway / I-83 will be reduced to one lane of travel in each direction between the 29th Street access ramp and Guilford Avenue. These lane closures will remain in effect until approximately 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 7, 2026, weather permitting. During this time, crews will shift these lane closures across the expressway as painting work progresses on the bridge above.
In addition, the following ramps will be closed during this time with detours in effect:
- The North Avenue ramp to the southbound Jones Falls Expressway / I-83
- The Maryland Avenue exit ramp from the southbound Jones Falls Expressway / I-83
- The Charles Street ramp to the northbound Jones Falls Expressway / I-83
Motorists traveling along the expressway during this time should stay alert for shifting traffic patterns within the work zone. Because these lane closures may cause delays, drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes.
