What We Do

The War Memorial at 101 North Gay Street in Baltimore is a place to honor Maryland's veterans. Our beautiful building, designed by Lawrence Hall Fowler and first dedicated in 1925, has stood firm for 100 years. Our mission is simple: we want to remember and honor those who served in 20th-century wars and those who continue to serve our community today. We’re more than just a memorial; we’re a hub for veteran outreach organizations and a home for many war-related artifacts. Through the War Memorial Arts Initiative, we bring music and the arts to our community. We host cultural events mainly featuring local artists and pay special tribute to our veterans. You can even reserve one of our rooms for your own event.

Reserve a Room

The space may be utilized for certain municipal functions and serves as a repository for documents relating to World War II.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding reserving a room or the War Memorial in general, feel free to contact us.

War Memorial Arts Initiative

The War Memorial Arts Initiative presents a broad spectrum of music and the arts in downtown Baltimore. Featuring mostly local artists, the Initiative serves to strengthen the neighborhoods surrounding the City Hall Campus by promoting civic engagement through a shared culture while honoring and serving veterans. Baltimore's Department of General Services administers the arts initiative and maintains the War Memorial on behalf of the War Memorial Commission. We seek to host weekly cultural events, such as concerts, lectures, classes, and seminars, for the general public. We proudly host commemorative events for the veterans' community.
